One KX Programme

Connect, collaborate and create.

One KX is developing an exciting pilot programme of arts, science and technology for young people. If you are interested in working with us to develop a project, please get in touch with Steve Byrne (steven.byrne@onekx.org.uk)

Past Projects

Music & Sound Composition for Film (8-10 Apr 2013)
We worked with a group of 15 enthusiastic people with an interest in sound and music for film/television to design brand-new sound scapes for film.  We taught them how to plan a soundtrack using industry standard techniques, gave them the technical skills necessary to capture the perfect sound and music, master editing practices and finally produce a completely new score for an existing film. In small teams, they collaborated on a short soundtrack to a sci-film. The finished films will be screened at One KX as part of our Sci-Arts Cabaret in April and at this year’s Bloomsbury Festival.

The project is in partnership with award winning composer Alexander Parsons.

Parents/guardians and children will work with illustrators, artists, scientists and architects to create a  beautifully designed book telling stories - in words and pictures - about science. The book will be published and used by The Francis Crick Institute to help children and young people learn more about the Crick’s research and the new building.

Stop-Motion Animation (11 Jan- 15 Feb 2013)

Starting on Friday 11th January 2013 (and running for 6 consecutive Fridays) One KX will be running an animation course as part of our Girls Group Friday. The course will be delivered by Saskia Schmidt of Oh What Is it, a digital design agency with years of experience in helping young people realise their animation dreams.

Box Office Bioethics (Jan - Feb 2013)

Working with students from Maria Fidelis Convent School, One KX have designed an 8 week filmmaking course. This project is designed to help the students submit a competition entry to Nuffield Council on Bioethics' Box Office Bioethics 2013. In order to deliver excellence in this project we are working with Martha Henson, formerly of the BBC and the Wellcome Trust, to advise on both the scientific aspect, and also the filmmaking.

The Summer Photography Project (13 - 24 August 2012)

A two week youth-led photography project in which One KX will facilitate 15-20 young people to create your own photography exhibition based around science and technology. Alongside photography workshops with professional  photographer Mark Sherratt, the group will garner inspiration from visits to the British library, the Wellcome collection, the Science museum and more. At the end of the project you will then exhibit their work at One KX

To express your interest in either of these programmes please contact our staff at One KX:

A six week filmmaking course, running for 6 consecutive Saturdays from 8 September at One KX, will take a group of young people from the conception of an idea through to the completion of a short documentary film. Guided by professional filmmakers from the Multimedia Refinery, using professional equipment and techniques, the group will look to tackle the human stories behind the science in our everyday lives.
