Local groups dazzle with creative show crowning One KX Big Arts Week
A dazzling multi-dimensional performance, showing off the creativity of local people in King’s Cross, marked the culmination of an ambitious arts festival staged at the One KX arts and health centre.
MOVE!, the name of the performance, was the finale event following One KX BIG Arts Week (14-18 July). Throughout the week, some 27 different groups from the King’s Cross area participated in the event, including schools, youth clubs, community and housing associations.
The groups were led by 16 professionals from the worlds of drama, music and dance, who volunteered their time and expertise to work with the various groups in interpreting in a creative way what ‘Move’ meant to them.
One KX Big Arts Week aimed to give people of all ages, living or working in the King’s Cross area, the chance to be guided by a professional in finding and unleashing their creativity.
As well as the One KX team, the event was supported by Y Touring, the professional, and award-winning, touring theatre company who are based at the centre.
The event also was also a celebration of the first anniversary of the One KX, a community centre with a mission to provide inspiration, education and opportunities for health in mind, body and spirit for the community of King’s Cross.
The innovative arts festival was the brainchild of Emma-Jane Trivett who is Associate Director, Community, at One KX. She said:
“The performance was a brilliant piece of entertainment. But the highlight for me has to be the joy and enthusiasm shown by everyone who got involved in One KX Big Arts Week – the participants, the professionals who volunteered their time, and staff at One KX.
“That so many individuals from all around King’s Cross - of different
interests and backgrounds, spanning such a vast age group – took part in this unique event is also a great achievement.
