Strictly silver for King’s Cross dance group

Still tripping the light fantastic at 67, Mo Ross and Mary O'Mahony represented the one move 50+ dance group with a stunning duet performance as part of a Camden-wide weekend celebration of dance.

Performing alongside the Sadler's Wells Company of Elders and other companies, one move 50+ shone as an example of strong choreography and passionate performance, attracting much attention and praise.

Their dance piece, entitled 'Love You to Pieces...' was performed in front of a public audience at the One KX community centre, a Central YMCA venture in King’s Cross, London. The piece was developed as a creative response to the question of “what is a healthy attitude to body image?”

Challenging pre-conceptions about the physical and creative abilities of those over 50, the one move 50+ project aims to provide creative and engaging opportunities for older adults to exercise their physical and artistic muscles in a fun and welcoming environment.

The one move 50+ co-ordinator at One KX, EJ Trivett, said: "This fantastic project takes the group out of their comfort zone, giving them the opportunity to stretch their skills and show the world that just because they're over 50, they're definitely not planning on taking it easy any time soon!

“Challenging subjects, weekly rehearsals and public performances spotlight the talents and creativity of a group so often overlooked."

More than a dozen women and men from around the borough have been participating in weekly sessions held at One KX, led by international dancer and choreographer Maria Ghoumrassi.

'Maria has made me realise that I am... and always have been a dancer', says Mo Ross.
