Interested in film? And in science? Read on. We’ve got the perfect brief for you.
94 Elements is a global filmmaking project, exploring human life through the elements. Everything that surrounds us is made from these 94 building blocks, each with its own properties and personality – our own bodies are mostly made from just six of them.
We’re looking for a group of 10 people aged 16-25 to take part in the project by making a short film showing personal viewpoints on chemical or elemental compounds and how people interact with them.
You don’t have to be an expert in either science or filmmaking to participate. You will learn how to plan a shoot, gain the technical skills necessary to capture the perfect shot, master interview techniques and editing practices. As a team, you will collaborate on a five- to seven-minute video on a particular element you’ve chosen. The finished films will then be screened at One KX as part of the Bloomsbury Festival and hosted on the Mixlab section of the 94 Elements site.
This project is run in partnership with 94 Elements, and creative science communications agency the Refinery, founded by Dr Lindsay Keith, a former research scientist and series producer for BBC’s Engineering Giants.
94 Elements will run for six Saturdays (10am-4pm) from 8 September 2012 until 13 October 2012. Please make sure you are available for all of these dates before submitting your application.
